Chumila Louise Hill
Cvmelv
64 years of age
March 5, 1956 - March 28, 2020
On March 5, 1956 Chumila Louise Hill (Cvmelv) was born to Joe and Helen Miller Hill in Toppenish, WA. March 28, 2020 after a long hard fought battle with complications due to diabetes she went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Chum was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation and a proud descendant of the Muscogee Creek Nation.
Throughout most of her childhood she was raised by her grandparents Tony and Margaret Hill in Wetumka, Oklahoma. Childhood memories of her and her younger sister Hazel playing, learning Creek hymns, wild onion dinners, and other escapades were shared in her famous Facebook stories. Chum competed for the title of Miss Indian Oklahoma, Miss Yakima Nation, and Miss Indian America. Proudly, she wore her banner as runner-up for Miss Yakima Nation during her years of reign.
She graduated from Wetumka High School in 1974. Chum attended Bacone Junior College in Muscogee, OK. Later obtaining her Associate Degree from Yakima Valley Community College.
She was the first one to bring authentic breakfast meatpies to the Yakama Nation becoming famous for “Chum’s meatpies and biscuits.” She will always be remembered for toting her insulated bag carrying her meatpies and her daily facebook posts that read, “meet me at the agency.” Chum was often asked to be the Head Lady Dancer at many Oklahoma Powwows. She became acquainted with Delilah Arkeketa of Ponca, Oklahoma. Delilah’s parents, Tony and Marie Arkeketa took her in through ceremony adopting her as their daughter giving her three additional sisters, Delilah, Tonette, and Bess and one brother, Eddy.
Her parents, Joe and Helen Hill were blessed with musical talent through singing and her father playing the piano. Her dad would bring her and her sisters, Hazel, Sharon, Madeline, and Espoke together teaching them to sing Southern Gospel. He gave them the name, “The Singing Hills.” A lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan, football season will not be the same without hearing, “let’s go boys, let’s go!!!” Her seven grandchildren were her number one enjoyments in life, a cold pepsi was her second.
Chum was a member of the All Tribes Christian Life Center Church, Wapato, Wa and Thlopthlocco Methodist Church in Wetumka Oklahoma. She was also raised in both Wapato and Toppenish Longhouse.
