CHESTER C. “CHET” DUKE – Selah, WA
January 9, 1952 to April 16, 2024
After a beautiful and adventurous life, Chet Duke, went to fly with the eagles on the morning of April 16, 2024. He was surrounded with the love of his family as he made his courageous transition to heaven at the age of 72.
Born on January 9th, 1952, in Ellensburg, WA, Chet was the beloved child of Clayton and Betty (Wines) Duke. He later moved to Yakima, where he graduated from Davis Highschool. Chet served his country in the U.S. Navy and obtained his Commercial Drivers License, embarking on a successful career in the trucking industry that spanned over 50 years. Chet's commitment to his work was unwavering, and he took great pride in his various roles, from bucking hay, hauling fuel, handling hazardous chemicals and even working on the ice highway in Alaska. He approached each task with great effort, leaving an indelible mark wherever he went. In his final years, Chet served as the Maintenance & Fleet Supervisor of White Lightning, LLC in Naches, WA, where his wisdom, attention to safety, and care for the equipment became an integral part of the company's foundation. He ran a tight ship and for those of you who knew him one of his favorites was respecting the speed limit in the yard, which was of course “NO DUST”…this will forever make us chuckle as we remember his spirit.
Chet will be deeply missed and forever cherished for the multitude of qualities that defined him. He was a strong, handsome, loving, and charismatic man. His capacity for love extended far beyond his own understanding, touching the lives of many. While he may have projected toughness on the outside, Chet always sought to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting embrace to those in need, even strangers. His heart was immense, far exceeding the time he spent here on Earth. However, the time he did have was enriched by the countless friendships he cultivated and the generosity he bestowed. Chet lived life on his own terms, embracing every moment until the very end.
Nature held a special place in Chet's heart, and he found solace in the beauty of the outdoors. He spent countless hours observing eagles and feeding the elk with friends, finding peace and tranquility in their presence. Chet also enjoyed jeeping, fishing, boating, and spending quality time with friends and family. Whether he was surrounded by the majestic pine trees or floating on a serene lake or river, Chet found his happy place. It is there that his spirit now soars freely.
Chet is preceded in death by his loving parents, Clayton and Betty (Wines) Duke. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patti (Jacketta) Duke of Selah, WA, and his children: Chad (Mallory) Duke of Dallas, GA, Chascidi (Tyler) White of Yakima, WA, Jaden (J’Nae) Duke of Florence, AZ, and step-son Tim (Sarah) Miller of Bonners Ferry, ID. Chet also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Georgia, Scarlett, Bear, and Jax Duke (GA), Madison and Jonathan Hennessy, Preston White (WA), and Aleigha Jo Miller (ID).
A Celebration of Life will be held at the White Lightning shop in Naches where Chet dedicated countless hours to doing what he loved.
