Charles Sipes

"Charles Richard Sipes passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on December 24, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Yakima, WA. He was 82 years old. Charles was born to parents Elmer Sipes and Leah Ruth Grimes on July 11, 1936 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He had a younger sister named Edeylyn. Charles took the train at 4 years old with his family and moved to Colorado. He had a rough childhood and always believed in fighting for what was right. Charles joined the Marine Corps at 18 years old and was honorably discharged due to medical issues. Charles was a very hard working man and met the love of his life while getting coffee on his lunch break. He met Madeline in 1966 and it was love at first sight. In March 1967, after dating for 3 months, Charles and Madeline eloped in New Mexico. A year later the couple married again, this time at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Del Norte, Colorado. When Charles married Madeline, he became a father to 3 young children - Linda, Brenda, and Kenneth. He was the best father that the kids could have asked for. Charles and Madeline became parents again in 1993 when they adopted Rose, Alice, and Jessica. Charles loved his wife and family fiercely. He was happily married for 50 years until the passing of his darling wife on February 5, 2015. During his life he proudly walked daughters Brenda, Linda, and Rose and granddaughters Coey and Megan down the aisle for their own weddings. He was looking forward to the birth of his 1st great grandchild in January 2019. Charles loved spending time with his family. His favorite thing to do was tell stories and jokes to his kids and grandkids. Charles' favorite past times were playing poker, Domino's, Yahtzee, and other dice and card games. He also enjoyed watching movies, reading westerns, and eating as many sweets as he could get away with. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister. Charles is survived by his children: Linda Sipes and her husband David Barrett (Sacramento, CA), Brenda Sipes (Yakima, WA), Kenneth Sipes (Sacramento, CA), Rose Sipes (Sacramento, CA), Alice Sipes (Sacramento, CA), and Jessica Sipes (Yakima, WA); Grandchildren: Coey Sipes (Naples, Italy), Jesse Sipes (Kennewick, WA), Megan Bush (Yakima, Wa), Shane Kraxberger (Yakima, WA), and Joseph Sierra (Grants Pass, OR); and his great grandson that is due in January 2019. Charles is loved, missed, and remembered very fondly. His funeral is being held at Holy Family Catholic Church (5315 Tieton Drive, Yakima, WA 98908) on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 10:00am."
