Charles Douglas Ortiz, 76, of Wapato, WA, passed away on February 9, 2026, in Seattle, WA. He was born on January 22, 1950, to Jesus and Carmen Ortiz.
A graduate of Wapato High School and Washington State College, Charles married Raquel H. Vargas on December 6, 1969. They raised five children in Wapato. Charles, often known as "Chuck," retired in 2000 after many years of service with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife.
Deeply involved in his community, Chuck started the Left Hook Boxing Club for local youth and participated in regional pool tournaments. An avid athlete and outdoorsman, he played baseball, football, and Sunday basketball, and he cherished time spent fishing, camping, and floating the river with his siblings and children.
He is survived by his wife, Raquel; his daughters, Sonya and Tina of Yakima, Jessica of Wapato, and Bernadette of Oregon; 27 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren, with four more expected soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Carmen Ortiz; his siblings, Joe, Richard, and Ray Ortiz, and Rita Cadena; his nephew, Joey Ortiz; his sons, Chucky Jr. and Jude Ortiz; his sons-in-law, David Garcia and Santos Suarez; and his great-granddaughter, Unikque Ramirez.
