Charles (Chuck) Reed Copeland Jr.
Charles Reed Copeland Jr., 89, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Chuck was blessed with a daughter, son and seven grandchildren during his lifetime. Papa, as he was called by his grandchildren, spent many hours watching Michael, Noah and Luke's soccer, baseball and basketball games. This brought him great joy. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Chuck was born August 20, 1933 to Charles Reed Copeland Sr. and Elsie Drinkwater (Hazard) Copeland in West Bridgewater, MA. When he was 14 his family moved across the country to Yakima, WA.
Chuck attended Yakima Senior High School, now Davis High School in Yakima, WA. He also attended Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima, WA, Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, CA, and Central Washington College of Education in Ellensburg, WA. Later he joined the Marines during the time of the Korean War. He proudly served his country for 3 years.
On February 20, 1965 Chuck married Roberta (Bobbie) Joyce Brown at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Yakima, WA. At the time of his marriage he was employed with the Yakima Herald Republic as a newspaper delivery man and also with the United States Postal Service as a mail sorter, where he stayed for 39 years, retiring on October 31, 1998. Chuck also took time off from the Post Office each fall for many years to pick apples. Soon after his retirement from the USPS, he was employed with the Terrace Heights Walmart as a greeter and parking lot security driver.
Chuck was a fan of watching many sports. He especially enjoyed baseball with his favorite team being the Boston Red Sox. While attending Santa Rosa Junior College, he was a manager of the baseball team. He also had a love for music. During his time at Yakima Senior High School he was a member of the band and pep band where he played the trumpet. When furthering his education at Central Washington College of Education, he served on the United Council of Christian Faith. The purpose of the council was to cultivate and strengthen Christian Living on Central's campus. Chuck was also an avid reader. He read anything from the newspaper, magazines, books, and basically whatever he could get his hands on.
Chuck is survived by his wife Bobbie, daughter Susan, son Charles Reese, grandchildren-Michael (Brooke), Noah (Olivia), Luke, Bailey and Brayden Colby, Jack and Chloe Copeland. He is also survived by his sister Carol Hamilton and his dog Duke all of Yakima, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Reed Copeland Sr., Elsie Copeland, brother Lloyd Copeland and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
We would like to thank the staff at Blossom Place for the abundance of kindness and assistance in taking care of Chuck during his time there. We would also like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan for their care over the past 9 months.
