Cecil Wagar

June 16, 1928 — July 21, 2016

Cecil (Cy) Wagar passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 21, 2016. He was born June 16, 1928, in Worthington, Minnesota to Art and Hazel Wagar. He was one of seven children. The Wagars were a farm family and Cecil learned early the importance of hard work. He served in the Air Force for four years and following his discharge he returned to farming. Cecil married Helena Kortlever in 1952. Following three farming seasons ruined by hail, Cecil and Helena moved to the Yakima area in 1959. Cecil was a postal letter carrier for 27 years. He also worked a second job at Yakima Truck Service for many years. Cecil was always known for his work ethic which he has passed down to his children. He never lost his love for farming and growing things. He was happiest at his home in Selah, where he had a very large garden along with various farm animals. He loved to share his farm and his vegetables with friends, family, the Union Gospel Mission and anyone that passed by. Cecil’s faith was important throughout his life and he looked forward to meeting his Savior. Cecil and Helena are long time members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Cecil served as a trustee for many years. Cecil is survived by his wife, Helena, and five sons: Bob (Bonnie), Ken (Carol), Larry (Debbie), Gary (Rhonda) and Wes (Darlene), as well as eleven grandsons and one granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his daughter Nita and grandson Jared Wagar. He is also survived by his sister Geneva, brother Raymond and eight great-grandchildren. The family is grateful to the wonderful caregivers from Heartlinks Hospice: Debbie, Pam, Mary, Sandra and Greg. Memorial gifts can be directed to Heartlinks Hospice or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
