Cecil Hagerman was born to W.K. and Ruby (Denslow) Hagerman on September 21, 1926 in Yakima. He grew up on the farm, graduated Top-Hi class of 1944 and entered the U.S. Army, January 1945. On December 31, 1949, he and Alice Besel were married in Goldendale. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December this year.
He is survived by his wife Alice, 3 sons, Steve and Rick (Stretch) of Zillah and Tom of Cowiche, 2 daughters, Tess Clowe (Jack) of Spokane and Sue Lorton (Don) of Yakima, 5 grandchildren, Tyree, Teela, Amanda, Jacob and Tami, and 7 great grandchildren, Emilio, Emma, Kayden, Baylee, Taylen, Cameron and Landen. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Lawrence, Wilbert, Herb, George and Frances).
Cecil worked hard all of his life in the construction field, eventually he served as an instructor in the Laborer’s training schools. After retirement in 1984 he had time to spend beautifying his yard with flowers, berry bushes, nut trees, grapes, and a vegetable garden. He was well known for the tomatoes he grew and shared with many friends and family members. Cecil enjoyed hunting until his hands could no longer steady a rifle, but he continued to fish until the recent years.
Cecil was a charter member of Toppenish Evangelical Church and served in several capacities there until its closure in 1998.
He fought a courageous battle with cancer and then passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
