Carolyn Hope

August 8, 1934 — February 18, 2025

Carolyn J. Hope passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 17, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on August 8, 1934, in Yakima, Washington, to Reinhold and Alice Wurl. Carolyn attended Yakima High School (Class of 52) and Yakima Valley College. She later married Donald J. Hope and together they built a life rooted in family and community. Carolyn was the owner and operator of Hope’s Coffee & Vending Service which evolved from one coffee machine in the Teachers' lounge at Franklin Junior High, Her love of America showed through her dedication as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary, Carolyn was a lifelong supporter of veterans and their families. A true patriot. She served as the Washington State President of the VFW Auxiliary and supported VFW Voice of America, USO and Buddy Poppy campaigns. Carolyn was involved in organizing, volunteering for, and participating in Sunfair and Veterans Day Parades for years. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Carolyn was a devoted servant of the Lord and worshiped at both Mt. Olive and Bethlehem Lutheran churches. Carolyn had many interests that brought her joy, including cheering for the Seattle Mariners, pool parties, playing bingo, collecting frog memorabilia and knitting. Above all, she cherished her time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Hope; her parents, Reinhold and Alice Wurl; and a special companion, Al Bell. She is lovingly remembered by her son, John D. Hope (Cindy); granddaughter Ashley Johnson (Branden); great-grandson Theo Johnson; and brother Robert Wurl (Doris).
