Bonnie Wortley

April 3, 1937 — August 3, 2024

Bonnie Wortley passed away quietly on August 3, 2024, at The Cottage in the Meadows Hospice in Yakima, after a brief illness. Bonnie is survived by and was loved by her children: Mike Wortley (Starla), Sun Lakes, AZ; Steve Wortley (Debbie), Frances, WA; Pam Wortley Young (LD), Yakima; and Brian Wortley (Allyson), Sun Lakes, AZ. She was also beloved by numerous grandchildren (Alexis, Beth, Chris, Eric, Heather, Astrid, Adriana, Jack Daniel, and Josh) and great grandchildren. Bonnie’s early years were primarily in Oregon, and in junior high school she moved with her parents, Lee and Irma Hesselgesser to Union Gap, Washington. At that time, she met her forever best friend and spouse, Jack Wortley, who would frequent Lee and Irma’s lunch counter and grocery store. Bonnie and Jack attended Yakima High School together and married in June 1955. Over the years, Bonnie and Jack raised their four children in Washington, Oregon and California. Bonnie was a supportive spouse to Jack, who built a successful career in the Natural Gas industry. Both Jack and Bonnie were supportive of their kids in sports, hobbies, jobs, and raising children. They were particularly proud of their three sons’ military service in the US Marine Corp and US Navy. Bonnie will be remembered for her skill as a seamstress, rose gardener and crafter. Jack will be remembered for his quiet life lessons to his children, his love of golf, and his fabulous pies. Bonnie may have assembled numerous hearty family dinners over the years; but she never made a pie-as that was Jack’s area of expertise. They both loved dachshunds, and over the years, had numerous cat companions. In their mid 60’s, Bonnie and Jack moved from Federal Way, Washington to Sun Lakes, Arizona for a well-deserved retirement, which often included breakfast out with family. In retirement, Jack enjoyed golf, attending baseball games, and participating in men’s groups, including charitable fundraising for a kids’ school supply fund. Bonnie enjoyed lunch out with her women friends, crafting (including painting), and sewing for her great grandkids and for local school kids. She was fun, and funny, and kind. And she definitely enjoyed a trip, even in her later years, to the fabric and craft store. In 2021, Jack passed away after a brief illness. At that time Bonnie moved to Washington to live with her son Steve and his wife, Debbie; and then to Yakima to live with her daughter Pam and her husband L.D. and son Eric. Over the past three years, Bonnie delighted in news about, and photos of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She particularly enjoyed the company of, and visits with her granddaughter Heather and Heather’s young daughters. Many thanks to all who cared for Bonnie the past several years. Special thanks to Pam, L.D. and Eric Young who shared their home with Bonnie this past year and provided her daily care and love. At the request of the family, there will be no services. Just have fond memories of Jack and Bonnie, who are now together forever in heaven. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Bonnie Wortley, please visit our flower store.
