Bonnie Morgan

January 23, 1930 — November 20, 2017

Bonnie Iris Groseclose Morgan died peacefully on November 20, 2017 in Yakima, Washington at the age of 87 years. She is at peace, safe in the arms of her Savior, and we know that we will see her “in the morning.” Bonnie was born on January 23, 1930 in Agatha, Idaho on what her older brother said was the coldest day of the year. The fourth child of Edward Jennings and Dixie Grey (Baugh) Groseclose, she graduated from Lapwai High School in 1947. After high school, Bonnie began working for Pacific Northwest Bell as a telephone operator. After transferring to Walla Walla, Washington, she began attending Central Christian Church where she met Henry Herbert Morgan. They married in 1955. She and Henry settled on 2 ¼ acres near College Place, Washington. Over the next eighteen years she was a housewife, farmer, Sunday School teacher, and waitress at a coffee shop. In 1973, the family moved to Zillah, Washington. Bonnie settled into farming their 11 ½ acres and could often be found snuggling a bummer lamb. The couple welcomed many into their home; friends, relatives, and strangers in need of kindness found comfort at her “table.” Her children remember her as a mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Shortly after their fiftieth wedding anniversary, they moved to Yakima, Washington. Bonnie nursed Henry through the last year of his battle with cancer and then went on to reside at several addresses in the city before finally fulfilling the goal of sharing a house with her granddaughter, Desi. Bonnie was an accomplished letter writer; receiving a “Bonnie Morgan Letter” is an event her family and friends will miss. She was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved Jesus and who was passionate about helping others. She had been an active and dedicated member of the Christian Congregational Church in Toppenish, Washington until it dissolved, then she served and worshiped with several diverse congregations both in Zillah and Yakima. At various times, she volunteered at the Zillah School District, Zillah Community Center, food banks, almost anywhere she could help. For a time, she was an active vital member of the Zillah Lions Club serving a term as Zone Chairman.

Bonnie is survived by a daughter and her husband, Lori “Lorrita” Morgan and Russell G. Jones of Walla Walla, Washington; three sons and their wives, Lonnie and Lynn Morgan of Yakima, Washington, Howard K. and Doran Morgan of Elgin, South Carolina, and Robert and Shelli Morgan of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter-of-the-heart, Lorie Guffey of Wapato, Washington; a sister, Marjorie “Peggy” Wunderlich of Lewiston, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more that she considered family and that considered her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Dixie Groseclose; her husband, Henry; sister, Lura Butler; brothers Virgil and John Groseclose; and several other beloved family members. A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Faith Community Church, Zillah, Washington. Reverend Craig Groseclose of Cameron, Idaho will officiate the ceremony. A reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bonnie’s life.
