Betty Jean (Williams) Coleman/Schroeder passed away peacefully Sunday night, February 21, 2016 at the age of 86. Betty was born October 15, 1930 in Seattle, WA to Glen and Ethel Williams. She was one of 5 children and the only daughter. She spent her early childhood in Seattle, and at the age of twelve she moved with her family to Yakima, WA. She attended Yakima High School. Her first job was an elevator operator in the Larson Building on Yakima Ave. During this time she met her husband, John Edward Coleman. They were married on Dec. 3, 1948 and settled in Yakima, where they had two children, Sandra Lee Coleman and Steven Ross Coleman. John passed away on November 6, 1971. Later in life she met then married Esten Schroeder June 9, 1975. They spent their retirement years doing what they loved, fishing and traveling in their motor home. Betty enjoyed her life, family, and friends. She worked hard, played hard, and always let you know exactly what was on her mind. She loved to entertain, and was happiest when her home was full of people. She was a loyal friend and was always there to lend a hand when people were struggling or in need. Later in life she was an avid mall walker, jazzercise queen, and loved water aerobics. In retirement she volunteered countless hours at Garden Village on 10th Ave. and at the Discovery Shop located on Yakima Ave. We will miss her smile, the owl collection, coffee at the ready with a donut on the side, the gold wool carpet, summer sprinklers that never stopped, endless card games, her wit, backyard feasts, Jarts, horseshoes, picture books, trips to the VFW and Vodka Squirts. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Glen & Ethel Williams, husbands John Coleman and Esten Schroeder, brothers, Earl, Harry, Clarence, and John Williams, and grandson Tyler John Coleman. Betty is survived by her daughter Sandi Saari, her husband Robert of Seattle WA, son Steven Coleman and wife Tammy, their two children, Tegan and Gavin, and great grandson Wyatt Coleman of San Diego, CA, and her sister-in-law Lavona Williams of Yakima.
