Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Betty J. Cherry

July 31, 1935 – February 11, 2026

Betty was born on July 31, 1935, in Salem, Arkansas, to Ina L. Owens (Cochran) and Jesse D. Owens. She met her husband, William (Bill) F. Cherry, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They were married on March 15, 1953, in Salem, Arkansas. Later that same year, the couple made their home in Yakima, Washington.

Betty worked at Bow Distributing before spending several years at Cash & Carry, where she remained until her retirement.

Although Betty and Bill did not have children of their own, their lives were filled with the love and laughter of many nieces and nephews. It was not uncommon to find one of them enjoying a weekend stay at their home. Family meant everything to Betty, and she was always there for us. She shared in our worries and celebrated our successes with genuine joy. Each of us has been touched by her kindness and generosity.

Most warm summer days you would find her landscaping and gardening. She took great pride in her home and yard, which were always beautifully cared for.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary A. Beard and Sharon K. Taylor, along with many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse D. Owens and Ina L. Owens; her husband, William (Bill) Cherry; her brother, James D. Owens; her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Taylor and Dale Beard; her nephew, Vic Beard; and her nieces, Chloe Eddines and Chantelle Dobbs.
