Barbara Marie Maine of Yakima, age 92, passed from us on August 9, 2022 in Yakima, WA.
She was born March 6, 1930, in Yakima, the daughter of Roy and Eva (Henle) Dorsett. She grew up in White Swan, WA until her father’s passing. In 1946, the family moved to Yakima, where she graduated from St. Joseph Academy in June of 1948.
In November of 1948, she married the love of her life, Gaylord L. Maine in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Yakima. They created a wonderful life together filled with adventure, laughter, and most important…love for each other and their family. Gaylord would often sing “You Are My Sunshine” to her.
Barbara was a homemaker while her children Jim, Judy, Bev, Gayla and Bruce were growing up. Barbara's Catholic faith was an important part of her life and she would often pray the rosary with her beads, as she would call them. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for many years.
She and Gaylord were snowbirds for many years traveling to Yuma, AZ during the winter and making friends there while visiting her daughter Gayla, grandchildren, and other relatives throughout Arizona. They enjoyed many evenings back in Yakima, playing cards with family, attending Maine family reunions, and camping.
She loved spending time talking and visiting with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She proudly attended many of their school, church, and sporting events even when her eyesight was failing. She was always ready and willing to play a game of cards with anyone, where you quickly learned how to be a gracious loser. More times than not, you needed to practice that skill! She was an avid reader of romance novels, doing puzzles, and making her families favorite dish; buttons (aka kniffles). You could hear country western music often playing on the stereo or her favorite soap opera on the television.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 73 years Gaylord Maine, their children; Jim (Peggy) Maine of Yakima, WA, Judy Maine of Gilbert, AZ, Bev (Dave) Arens of Yakima, WA, Gayla Marsh of Gilbert, AZ and Bruce (Annette) Maine of Goldendale, WA.
8 grandchildren; Chad (Mayeli) Graff of Jacksonville, NC, Jim Jr. (Melissa) Maine, Vanessa (Aaron) Krantz of Selah, WA, Dan Maine of Goldendale, WA, Sarah Guzmán of Spokane, WA, Heather (Kyle) Smith of Gilbert, AZ, Tyson (Brandy) Marsh of Chandler, AZ, and Nic (Cece Evans) Marsh of Scottsdale, AZ.
14 great-grandchildren; Clarissa (Caleb) Yancy, Michael Sanchez Graff, Austin Maine, Noah Adamo, Lily Adamo, CJ Graff, Jayden Dunn, Kylar Maine, Jonah Adamo, AnnaLucia Guzmán, Jacob Adamo, Koby Bustillos, Taytum Haman, and Meadow Smith.
1 great-great grandchild; Canaan Yancy and a baby boy Yancy due in October.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eva Dorsett, her brothers and their spouses, Russell & Phyllis Dorsett, Leroy & Donna Dorsett, Merlin & Cleo Dorsett, and granddaughter, Tanya Graff.
