Barabara Debooy

December 4, 1947 — June 29, 2015

Barbara Duke Petty DeBooy, 84, died June 29, 2015, in Spokane, Washington. She was born in Toppenish, Washington and lived most of her life in Yakima, Washington, retiring to her home on Lake Roosevelt, near Wilbur, Washington. For the last two years she was a resident of Sullivan Park Assisted Living, which took excellent care of her and loved her very much. She was married December 4, 1947 to Ivan L. Petty, Jr., who died in October, 1992. She later met and married Ken DeBooy, who died in July, 2014. She is tremendously missed and survived by one brother, Jim Duke and his wife Joan; four children, Karen Petty, Steven Petty and his wife Shari, Cindy Platt and her husband Gary, and Leon Petty and his wife Teresia. Eleven grandchildren, Will Green, Andrea Brookshire, Eric Petty, Jesse Petty, Meagan Petty, Jake Petty, Kyle Petty, Ryan Petty, Andrew Platt, Aaron Platt and Holly Vardy, twelve great grandchildren and many others that she treated like her own. Barbara had a loving, giving heart that was prepared to help anyone that needed it. She always carried a big, heavy purse that had anything you could ever want in it so she would be prepared to help someone if they asked. A tradition she has passed on to many. She is also known for her excellent cooking, spoiling her grandchildren, and crocheting blankets for newborn babies at various hospitals and for the elderly at various nursing homes. Grandma Barb also played a huge part in helping to raise many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Despite her medical conditions later in life, she maintained a spunky, sharp, charismatic attitude that kept herself and others on their toes. We all have very special memories about our mother and grandmother and have learned a lot from her. She was our strength, our laughter and our comfort. She was the most generous, loving, non-judgmental and unselfish person ever. They say that a mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible and she was that to so many people. A celebration of life will be held August 29, 2015 at 3:00pm, at Valley Hill Funeral Home Yakima, WA. Followed by a BBQ/ potluck in the park at Open Bible Christian Center (2701 W. Lincoln Ave Yakima, WA). Please bring your favorite salad or dessert. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
