Arthur Sigurd Jonassen, a long time resident of Yakima, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014. He was 83 years old. He was born in Aberdeen, Wa May 4, 1930. Arthur served in the Air Force and was stationed in Guam. He retired from the State of Washington as a probation/parole officer. He belonged to the Sons of Norway in Yakima. He enjoyed road trips, gardening, the outdoors and traveling to Norway to visit with many relatives there. He is survived by his wife Mary Jonassen of Yakima, sister Joyce Hammond of Seattle, stepbrother Charles Canfield of Arkansas, son Glen Jonassen of Auburn, Wa, daughter Susan Teem of Roslyn, WA, daughter Marcie Lynn Judkins of Kent, Wa. Step daughters Frances Pastori of Mckinleyville, Ca and Jane Duffy of Monroe, Wa and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Sigrid Canfield, father Arthur Sigurd Sr., stepfather Chuck Canfield, brother Chester, stepbrother Hans Lorentzen, daughter Kristine Richmond and granddaughter Randi Michelle Judkins. No service at his request. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Yakima Humane Society at yakimahumane.org or mail to Yakima Humane Society, 2405 West Birchfield Rd, Yakima, WA 98901.
