Arnold “Arnie” Glen Jacobsen Sr., age 87, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima. He was born on January 12, 1930, in Downer’s Grove, Illinois to Herbert and Anna Marie (Cook) Jacobsen. He was the youngest of 12 children.
When Arnie was 17 he enlisted in the Air Force. His first oversees assignment was to Germany in 1948. It was there that he met, Wilhelmina (Mina) Mayer and they were married in Munich on October 23, 1951. Arnie had European assignments in Germany and France and in the states of California, Kansas and Washington. He enjoyed his work in aircraft maintenance and scheduling and enjoyed the experiences in the countries and states where he lived. He retired after 20 years of service in 1968. He then worked for the City of Tacoma water department for 13 years. Arnie enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing, bird hunting, gardening and caring for his dogs.
Arnie and Mina moved to Yakima in 2016 to be near their son and his wife because of Arnie’s declining health.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Mina, his son, Arnie (Jodi) Jacobsen and his daughter, Karen (Dave) Hampshire. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan) Donald and Kristen Hampshire and his brother, Len Jacobsen and sister, Ruth Behrens.
