Antonio H. Daniel Sr.
Antonio H Daniel Sr. of Sunnyside Washington went to be with the Lord on Wednesday Aug 7th, 2014. He passed away at his home in Sunnyside surrounded by his family. Antonio was born on April 17th 1934 in Mercedes, Texas to Manuel and Guadalupe Daniel. As a child and into his young adulthood he migrated with his family to work in different crops; they migrated from south Texas to west Texas, Arizona, Idaho and arriving in Washington in April of 1947. He and his family continued following work until he joined the Army in March 1957 and served until 1959 in Fort Polk, Louisiana. While in the Army, he obtained his GED and after, he settled in the State of Washington where he resided in the communities of Pasco, Grandview, Burlington and eventually Sunnyside.
Antonio was a long time advocate for migrant families and spent most of his career helping those less fortunate. He worked for Head Start for over fifty years and held numerous positions with different agencies throughout the nation. During his career he conducted federal audits for Head Start all across the nation. He continued to work and advocate for the migrant community until his retirement in May 2011 when he was working for Washington State Migrant Council.
He received numerous awards and recognition throughout his long career. The one he was most proud of was the "Plate of Bounty Award" he received from Head Start in the year 2000 for his outstanding leadership. He had a great sense of humor and really enjoyed telling his stories and making people laugh.
In 1975 he met his long time companion and future wife Olga Zavala and together they had two sons, Antonio H Daniel Jr and Victorino Daniel. He enjoyed camping, fishing dancing and spending time with his family. His hobbies were making his famous salsa's and tending to his garden.
Antonio is survived by his wife; Olga Daniel of Sunnyside, His children, Rosemary Aguayo-Othon of Phoenix, Arizona. Jacqueline Ramirez, Corina Cortez, Linda Daniel, all of Pasco, Washington. Victor Robles of Chula Vista, California. Finan and Manuel Daniel of Pasco, Washington. Guadalupe Sarmientol, Antonio H. Daniel Jr., Victorino Daniel, Maria Diaz, Andrew Daniel and Selena Daniel all of Sunnyside, Washington. His sister Linda Cervantez of Prosser, Washington. Numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Manuel and Guadalupe Daniel. HIs brother Alberto Daniel and his sisters Fidencia Cerna, Rosa Morado and Margarita Rocha and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing and visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 11, 2014 with the recital of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Graveside services will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
