Anne Besteman

Anne Besteman, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 14, 2013. Anne was born in Mabton on August 22, 1920 to David and Jacoba Bos. She was one of 11 children. She grew up working on the farm with her family. That is where she got her strong work ethic. Anne married Bert Ooms and they had four children. Other than a short time in Seattle, Anne lived in the Yakima Valley. She was a life long member of the Christian Reformed Church where she lead Girl’s Society, Calvinettes, Coffee Break and various other service groups. Anne sewed for many years – using her talent to teach young girls to sew through 4-H. Anne went to nursing school and became an LPN. She worked at a clinic in Grandview for a number of years and then at the Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in the ER. She was also very involved in the Sunnyside Christian School. Anne later married her childhood friend Matty Besteman. They were married for 27 years. Anne is preceded in death by both Bert Ooms and Matty Besteman, her parents, seven of her brothers and sisters – Lydia Boeringa, Alice Broers, E.B. (Bob) Bos, Earl Bos, Marie Veltkamp, Bill Bos and Fred Bos. She is also preceded in death by her son Bill Ooms, one niece Colleen Aune and one nephew Dale Duim. Anne is survived by her daughters Andrea Moehle (Allen), Rose Herndon (Gary), Wendy Bognar (Dean), her daughter-in-law Leslie Ooms, two sisters – Lucille Apol, Margaret Duim (Wilbur), one brother Harry Bos (Lynn) and one sister-in-law Mary Lynne Bos. She is also survived by five step children – Maryanne Hof, Carolee Besteman, Judy Besteman, Beula Horak (Bill) and Bryan Besteman (Monica), numerous grand children, great-grand children, cousins, nieces and nephews. Services for Anne Besteman will be held at Valley Hills Funeral Home – 531 S. 16th St. (the former Christian Reformed Church) – on Friday, June 21 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunnyside Christian Reformed building fund. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in care of the arrangements.
