Angel Mendoza

Angel Gabriel Mendoza, a caring son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend was taken to Heaven by God on November 7th, 2015. He was 17 years old and many of his family and friends called him Gabby. After much prayer by his parents for a child, Angel Gabriel was born at Sunnyside Community Hospital on May 21st, 1998. Angel meaning: messenger or angel and Gabriel meaning: God is my strength. Angel was a junior at Granger High School and was attending running start classes at YVCC in Yakima. He was in the National Honor Society, an honor student, Upward Bound, AVID and MECHA. Angel was an intelligent young man with a strong faith. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger for 16 years. He participated in Catholic Children Choir group, youth group, retreats, community volunteer and a youth leader for spiritual retreats. Angel was known for his sense of humor which included practical jokes. He enjoyed life and wanted to live it smiling and laughing. Dressing up in his signature style was another thing he enjoyed doing. Angel was a peacemaker and a good friend. Like most teenagers he loved social media especially Snapchat. Angel dabbled in different sports and finally found a love for tennis. Last year in tennis he played boys doubles and him and his partner took 5th at Sub Districts. Angel thought much about his future career. He was contemplating either a career as a physical therapist or a counselor. Each fall he looked forward to cheering on the Seahawks and each spring he enjoyed rooting for the Mariners Angel is survived by his parents: Raul and Juana Mendoza. His sisters: Emily (12), Amy (11), Carmen (8) and Samantha (5). He is also survived by his grandparents: Santiago and Ofelia Lopez (maternal) and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents (paternal):Maria del Carmen Mendoza Meraz and Jose de Jesus Mendoza Zaragosa. Angel’s parents, Raul and Juana, would like to thank God for the 17 years of blessings from their beloved son; for the greatest comfort and hope comes from God. Life does not end here but starts. They would also like to thank the community of Granger especially Granger High School, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, all their loving and supportive family and friends and also all of Angel’s loving and supportive friends. Services for Gabby will take place: Wednesday at the Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside from 7:00-8:30pm; Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Granger Catholic Church 4:00pm to 11:30 am (wake will take place). Friday, mass will be held in at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Granger Catholic Church at 11:30am followed by the ceremony in the Sunnyside Cemetery.
