Alfredo Z. Vargas
July 4, 1918 - February 14, 2016
Alfredo Z. Vargas age 97 left to be with the Lord on February 14, 2016 in Benton City, WA surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife Anita Vargas (Hernandez) of 75 years.
Born to Aldoberto and Carmen Vargas in Uruapan Michoacan, Mexico. Raised with two sisters Guillermina Guzman and Emma Gamboa. Alfredo met his wife in Eagle Pass, TX in 1941. In 1942 he was active duty as 38363063, Private, 418th Training Group, AAF. He was the military translator. Honorably discharged in 1945, he then relocated to Harrah, WA where he built the family home and raised his ten children. He was the Foreman for Gamache Farms until his retirement. During his summer vacations they'd pack the whole family up and head to Mount Vernon, WA to pick strawberries. His biggest passion in life was his gardening and his farm animals. He also loved to race cars, play basketball with the kids, and the Sunday trips to town. He will always be remembered for his humor and being a big jokester. In 2011 they moved to Benton City, WA to be cared for by Valentino and Anita Vargas-Reyes, his daughter and son in law.
Alfredo is survived by his wife Anita Vargas (Hernandez), and children Albert H. Vargas (Christine Vargas), Raquel H.(Chuck Ortiz) Ortiz, Ellena H. Hora (Steve Hora), Antonio H. Vargas (Diana Vargas), Anita H. Vargas-Reyes (Valentino Reyes), Armando H. Vargas (Sonia Vargas), Amelia H. Castaneda, and a son-in-law Johnny Rodriguez. He also has 40 Grandchildren, 108 Great Grandchildren, and numerous Great Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Aldoberto and Carmen Vargas, two sisters Guillermina Guzman and Emma Gamboa, and his three children Alfredo H. Vargas, Carmen H. Rodriguez, and Maria Louisa Rodriguez, and his Grandson Robert Vargas.
Viewing and visitation will be held 4pm-8pm Sunday February 21, 2016 with the recital of the Holy Rosary at 6pm at the Valley Hills Funeral Home (531 S. 16th St) in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Monday February 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (904 S. 6th St) in Sunnyside followed by graveside services at Zillah Cemetary (100 1st Ave). A reception will be held at St. Joseph's Gymnasium after graveside services.
Alfredo will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Missed and never forgotten always in our hearts.
