Alfonso (Scooter) Meza Jr.,79, of Granger WA passed away September 10,2023 , peacefully at his home.
Alfonso was born in LaMesa TX, on October 1, 1943 to Alfonso Sr. and Trinidad L. Meza.
The family migrated to the Granger area where he made his home for the last 60 years.
Alfonso graduated from Granger High School and attended Evergreen College.
He worked as a paralegal, social worker for DSHS and was a community organizer.
He fought for Chicano and migrant worker rights' while walking alongside Cesar Chavez.
Alfonso had a passion for the sport of boxing. He held the title of Pacific Northwest
Lightweight Champion and was rated #10 in the U.S. by Ring Magazine.
He was selected to go to Panama and spar with Roberto Duran, to prepare
Duran for his championship bout.
He extended his love of boxing by creating a youth boxing club to teach the sport to local youth.
He finished his boxing career with a record of 22 bouts, 17 wins and 14 knockouts.
Alfonso was pre-deceased by his son, Gabriel M, Meza, his parents, Alfonso Sr. and Trinidad L. Meza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Trinidad (Trina) Meza, brothers Gilbert Meza and Freddie Meza , 2 sons, Richard (Irma) Meza,
Alfonso Meza III.
4 Grandchildren, Michelle Fowkes (Meza), Cristina Meza, Grace Meza and Richard Meza Jr.
4 Great Grandchildren, Anthony Meza, Aaron Meza, Lilianna Galarosa and Alex Galarosa.
No services are planned at the request of Alfonso.
