Aletha Wilma Sconawah Price, age 85 of Wahkiacus, Washington passed away
January 5, 2026 in Yakima, Washington. She was born November 7, 1940 to Eddie J
Sconawah and Edna Wahpat in Toppenish, Washington. She spent most of her life in
Satus, Washington. She is a proud Yakama Nation enrolled member. She was a mother,
sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She spent
many years in the Pow Wow Trail dancing as a Traditional woman, being a gatherer of
traditional foods, and an arena director whip lady at many pow wows. She worked with
the Yakama Nation for over 30 years with different programs such as a counter for
General Council, a member of the Code of Ethics, & a Computer Operator in Data
Processing Program. Mom enjoyed spending time with all her children she raised,
traveling to pow wows, stick games, basketball tournaments, cooking her famous
burritos and Indian burgers.
Mom (Ulla) was known for her strong work ethic and no-nonsense approach to
life. She was strict, fair, and deeply rooted in her values, teaching by example the
importance of hard work, respect, and integrity. Her love was steady and
enduring, shown through her dedication and the life she built for her family. Her
loving and hard-working approach will continue to live on in those she touched.
Mom is survived by her sons Gary Pierce Sr, Ricky Grunlose (Marnie), & Frank “Chico”
Aranda (Gloria), Daughters Rosette Rosales, Aletha “Little” Aranda, Michelle
Sconawah, & Tina Sconawah, Sister Lena Sconawah, numerous grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She proceeds in death with her mother and father, her brothers Matthew Sconawah,
Arnold Sconawah, and Joseph Sconawah, sisters Lucy Price, Ellen Tehkeal, son Vince
Price, & Clarence “Horse” Pierce, honorary daughter Regina Selam, her
granddaughters Glatoria “Star” Aranda & Amy Price, & grandson Preston Pierce.
We want to give a warm Thank-You to the nurses, doctors at MultiCare Hospital, and
Emerald Care for taking care of mom and those who said their last goodbyes on her
ending days.
Dressing Services January 7, 2026, 11 AM at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato.
Overnight services will be held at Wapato Longhouse afterwards. January 8, 2026 at
Sunrise Mom will be going to 1910 Cemetery to be laid to rest.
