She married her lifelong sweetheart and companion John Thornton on July 12, 1944. Jean and "Red" Thornton and their first two children, Harold and Marilyn, moved to Yakima, Washington in 1948. Jean had three more children, a daughter, Karen and two boys, Robert and Rick.

Jean raised her kids lovingly, caringly and with as much grit as necessary with a brood of five. The Thornton home in Wiley City was always full of life and laughter and plenty of other kids who thought of Jean as their second Mom. Besides raising her kids she worked several years in the fruit industry of Yakima Valley and many years as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Memorial Hospital and the West Valley Nursing Home. She worked as a survey taker as well.

Donna loved life, and lived it to the fullest. Donna's friends and family were her main focus. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. Whether it was being a taxi service to her granddaughters, Sunday breakfast at her daughter's home, talking to her son during a ball game or staying up late at her sister Chris' house playing games with the family, Donna found joy in everything. She looked forward to her monthly gatherings with her friends or trying sushi for the first time with her best friend Pat Lucier.

Dorothy May Stanton
YAKIMA - Dorothy May Stanton passed away at home June 22nd of 2007, she was 79 years old.

She was born October 13, 1927, in Bemidji, Minnesota, to Dennis and Lilly Tatro. She was the youngest of five; sister Blanche - brothers Virgil, Bob and Less.

Dorothy had recollected stories about the life she lived in Bemidji with her family. She always had the biggest and brightest smile when talking about her father. She said that on countless nights after a hard day at work, her father would always take the time to put her on his lap and sit on the front porch and rock in the rocking chair and tell stories or just watch the sun go down.

There was also another story in Bemidji that Dorothy told us, where her whole family was held captive for approximately 24 hours by Al Capone. Capone had made an escape from the law and was on the run. What had actually made him stop at their farm, no one really knows. Dorothy sat on Al Capone's lap in a chair with the understanding that if anyone would walk behind him she would get it. He also held her as they slept by the back door of the house. The next morning, a black limo type car pulled in front of the house and then Capone just left. Dorothy had stated that she wasn't scared at all during the whole ordeal. He made her feel safe, and no one was ever physically harmed. To this day, she kept the piece of table linen that Capone had drawn a flower with the names "Dennis and Lilly" on.

When she was young, her family moved to Selah, Washington. During high school she worked for her English teacher at her home. She would do some cooking and cleaning. She later worked as a crosier (usher) at the Yakima and Capitol Theaters. Dorothy then graduated in 1947.

After high school she started work at Pacific Fruit. This is when she said her life really began. This is when she met the love of her life and soul mate, Jack Harold Stanton. Jack would drive the girls home after work. After a short courtship, they were married and remained happily married for 57 years.

Jack and Dorothy would ride their Triumphs with friends and family. They loved to have cook outs, crab feeds, bowling (gutter ball gussy!), fishing, community events and many other activities.

After a few years of fun, they started their family. In 1954 Dorothy gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Carla JoAnn. The short time she was with them left a large impact on their lives. On January 11th, 1957, they were then blessed with a son, Dale Allen. On December 12th, 1958, they were again blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Darla Paulet. On January 25th, 1960, they were again blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Glenda Marie.

After Glenda was born, they bought Bud's Radiator Shop. Dorothy would do the running for Jack and she would make deliveries. In the mid 1960's, they built Yakima Plating where Dorothy was the bookkeeper.

After the children were born, they still had many great adventures. They loved to take the children on family trips. They would go to Long Beach, Elwoco and many other places to fish and camp.

When Jack passed away in September of 2006, her family surrounded her with love and companionship till her end. Jack and Dorothy had never left each other for long throughout the years. The family had stated many times that they could feel Jack's presence in the home. On occasion, Dorothy would make the comment that she could see Jack sitting in his chair smiling at her. It is a belief to the family that Jack did not move on. It is believed that he stayed till he could go on with his soul mate to the other sides of the pearly gates to reunite with family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her son Dale Stanton of Yakima, Wa., grandson Jesse and granddaughter Trista; daughter Darla and husband Leon Deane of Wa., granddaughter Linda and husband Jesse Parker, great granddaughter Kayde-May and great grandson Anthony; granddaughter Brenda and husband Sam Longnecker, great grandson Hunter and great granddaughter AudriAnna; daughter Glenda and husband Bill Albin of Mt., grandson Billy and wife Jennifer Albin, great granddaughters Brytnea, Dakota, Shyann and MaKenna; grandson Adam and wife Michelle Albin, great grandsons Russell and Jason; granddaughter Stacy Albin; adopted daughter Linda Larkin.

One thing that needs to be said about Dorothy is that no matter what was going on or what was being said, she always said or did it with a smile. She brought so much happiness, love and all around warmth to every one she came across. She was the anchor - the glue of this family. We all hope and pray that she understands that she taught us all very well - family or not. We were all blessed with an angel the day she came into our lives and even though she is no longer with us, she is still looking on us with pride and love knowing that she had touched all of our souls so deeply.

We love you and miss you. The smile you shared will warm our hearts forever.

Memorial services will be held Monday, July 2nd, 2007, 2 pm, at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane, Terrace Heights.

A potluck reception will follow at West Valley Missionary Church, 11107 Widehollow Rd., Yakima, Wa. 966-6322. All are welcome to attend.

Daniel's life was tragically taken by a drunk driver in a hit and run accident while celebrating his 27th Birthday in Las Vegas with his good friend Paul Mathisen.

Daniel lived a fuller life than most live in a lifetime. He traveled and experienced cities all around the world from the Mediterranean to Mexico and Key West to Alaska. One of his most memorable vacations was surprising his mother on her 50th Birthday with a trip to New York City. As adventurous as he was, Daniel's heart always remained at home with his family. His camping trips and late night poker games, with his younger brothers Sawyer and Lane, were dear to his heart. He loved spending time with his two nephews Steven and Trevor. They couldn't wait for Uncle Dan to wrestle and play for hours on the floor. Daniel shared a close bond with his little sister Lexi, and always cherished his one on one time with her. As a child, Daniel emulated and idolized his big brother Steve. As they grew older, the roles reversed and Steve found himself idolizing his little brother and all his accomplishments.

Daniel was so positive and outgoing it seemed he had the world at his fingertips. His infectious smile could light up any room, while his charming ways made everyone feel like they were his best friend. Daniel's charisma and energy always made him the life of the party.

From an early age Daniel excelled in gymnastics. He went on to become an admired instructor at Gymnastics Plus, which he took great pride in. Daniel couldn't wait to take the next step, so soon after graduation he was off to start the next phase of his life in the big city of Seattle. He landed a job the day he arrived at a waterfront catering company. It was there that he met Cathy, who would become one of his closest friends and confidants. Cathy sadly and unexpectedly preceded Daniel in death and was waiting for him in Heaven.

Daniel's catering job was a stepping stone to a successful career in retail sales, beginning at the Bon Marche and ending as the top salesman at Market Optical. It was during his five years at Market Optical that he formed life long friendships with his coworkers and clients and left lasting memories.

Daniel is survived by his mother Sherrie Baird-Mathers, stepfather Steve Mathers, and younger sister Lexi Mathers, his father Steve Baird, stepmother Lisa Baird, and two younger brothers Sawyer and Lane, his older brother Steve and wife Tami Baird, and his two nephews Steven and Trevor, grandparents Tom and Pat Sharp, Warren and Norma Baird, Bob and Betty Mathers, Stan and Marilyn Connelly, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Preceding him in death and waiting for him with open arms are infant brother Michael Mathers, cousin Tyler Pelkey, great grandparents Bill and Faye Linger, William and Charlotte Sharp, grandfather Cleneth Baird, and great Aunt Thelma Mikkelson.
