Atha Lucile McDowell
YAKIMA - Atha Lucile McDowell passed away July 20th at Crescent Place Retirement home with her husband Bob and Margie McDowell, who gave mom that loving touch from her heart. She was 91 years old. It is only fitting both of their pictures are included in mom's obituary. Their love for each other was inseparable.

She was born August 30, 1915 in Palouse, Washington. She and dad spent quality years hand-in-hand walking and playing golf together daily. They lived in Edmonds, WA in their own home for 45 years. The morning routine at the breakfast table always included a game of cribbage.

I could formulate mom's life being an ambitious housekeeper. She took loving care of her husband Bob by cooking excellent foods for family and friends, and she also took pride in the home flowers that she loved. She and dad loved to entertain while playing bridge. Sports were a part of her life and also getting a hole in one in golf.

Mom gave both of her sons, Edgar and Donald, a foundation about God's way early in life. We both would attend Sunday School with or without mom, because sometimes she would be working. Mom had a direction of persuasion with little compromise.

The late evening before mom's passing I heard mom say to dad, her bed partner. "I love you, Bob." How fitting are these words for dad to hear, because yesterday was their 66th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include her husband Bob McDowell; two sons, Ed and Don McDowell; Ed, from Ellensburg with wife Jill and three grandchildren, Kevin and Kirk McDowell and Kim Thorpe and five great grand-children; son Don McDowell from West Valley of Yakima and wife Margie and grandson Mike McDowell from Walla Walla.

And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
On what day – or what hour.

Now is the only time you have
So live it with a will

The hands may then be still.
